In 2003, IWCBF established its second comprehensive burn rehabilitation clinic in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic partnering with Dr. Carlos De Los Santos and Pearl Ort burn unit.
"I met Rick Sieller from the International Women and Children’s Burn Foundation approximately 12 years ago while working as the chief surgeon and director of the Pearl Ort Burn Unit in Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic. Subsequent to our initial meeting, we have been great allies in all aspects of burn treatment in patients with mild, moderate and severe burn injuries throughout Latin America.
When we started, in 1991, Pearl F. Ort burn unit, in Dominican Republic had arrived to the highest
quality of medical care in acute phase of burn patients. But the advanced acute care was overshadowed by the lack of compression garments and UVEX masks to completely and successfully rehabilitative someone back to becoming a productive and integrated member of society. This tremendous gap was bridged by Rick, who trained us and provided us with material forcompression garments, thermoplastic material and UVEX masks."
